Catriona McCarthy - Photography

Photography forms a main part of my research as an artist. A camera allows me to capture the moment an enables me to take an image back into the studio to transform into a painting.

I am fascinated how much coastal geology varies dramatically from place to place and am slowly making my way round the world recording each place that I visit. I am influenced by the way rocks can work almost like mirrors capturing and reflecting the environment that surrounds them. Caves are particularly intriguing me in the way they can naturally frame a landscape. Beside are some images from a research trip to Sardinia's east coast.

I will be going on more research trips over 2008 recording geology from around the Greek Islands. To view more of my photography please visit www.fototrip.co.uk
